Edward L. Freer practices primarily in the areas of residential real estate transactions, lender representation, and commercial real estate leasing and transactions. Ed has also represented clients in matters before town planning and zoning boards, as well as in conjunction with liquor license applications. Ed attended Marist College, where he received is BA in 1997. He earned his J.D. at Pace University School of Law in 2002, while working full time at the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, and also a M.S. in Pharmaceutical Science from the University of Florida, with a concentration in Forensic Science. Ed had a twenty-one year career with the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, eventually retiring in 2013 as the Detective Lieutenant, a role where he was responsible for overseeing all criminal investigations that were conducted by the members of the department’s Detective Division. After retiring from the police department, Ed worked at Marist College, in Poughkeepsie NY, as an Asst. Director of Safety & Security, Title IX Investigator, and eventually as the Deputy Title IX Coordinator, where he was responsible for compliance with federal and state laws on interpersonal violence and sexual misconduct. Ed has conducted over 150 investigations involving student conduct violations, Title VII and Title IX sexual harassment and sexual misconduct allegations, dating violence, hazing and retaliation, and is an ATIXA-certified Level I and II Civil Rights Investigator. He has presented before local human resources associations on the topics of sexual harassment polices, training and investigations, and has provided training to local businesses and organizations to facilitate their compliance with New York State’s new anti-sexual harassment legislation.
